On April 2nd, 21-year-old Justin Moreira was charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and silencer. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Moreira ordered a Walther PPK/S .380 caliber pistol and silencer from an undercover federal agent for $2,500 in Bitcoins. “The charging statute provides for a sentence of no greater than 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.”
Moreira is currently unable to pay the 250,000$ fine with Bitcoin.
